Iterating on Weak Output

By the end of this lesson you will be able to diagnose a poor answer and refine it in two follow-ups — applied to real marketing work.

The concept

Strong prompts are specific. They tell the AI who it should act as, what situation it's in, exactly what to produce, and how the result should look. When a task is large, split it into a chain of smaller prompts — outline first, then draft, then refine — so each step can be checked before moving on.

Workplace example

Imagine your team needs a launch plan for a new product campaign aimed at small business owners. A weak request like "help me with this" produces generic output. A strong request names the audience, the goal, the constraints and the format, so the first draft of a campaign brief is already 80% usable.

Practical exercise

Write a prompt (or a short chain of 2–3 prompts) that would get an AI assistant to produce a campaign brief. Include a role, context, the task, a format and any constraints such as length or tone.
